"Yes, a long time ago, I'd see a Playboy every now and then... But this was a really long time ago, when my father was still wild and (once again) single. I looked at the pictures with curiosity and jealousy (o why don't I look like that?), he only read the interviews. That's what he said and why shouldn't I believe him? But after some time somewhere in his apartment (in the bathroom? in the hall? in his study? I don't remember) a Playmate from a Summer month in the seventies was tacked on to the wall. The shiny paper became rough and torn, the tacks that held her up started to rust, but for me she stayed, even after she was gone for a long time, a dream:
all naked back, with a devout look over her shoulder.

I have never read the Playboy- for that strange American style of interviewing (impertinent and chaste at the same time and full of attention to idiotic details) I prefer to read 'Rolling Stone'. Americans are unbeatable when it comes to news reporting and they make the best newspaper in the world. I like their webzines best, too. Of course I look at Writer's Block, every now and then, because there are funny young Dutch writers there, but being funny doesn't always suffice and only in the US can I stay informed of what my favorite screaming siren Camille Paglia is making noise about. And only there I can enter a serious, sassy anti-censoring campaign.

In my profession, art journalism, I can show my love for theatre. But above all I like to read (www.girlsonfilm.com) and write about film (us.imdb.com), because that is where my passion lies: in the movies from Europe and the US, at night in the halls of movie theaters and with the people who populate all those movies.

Why? It is hard to explain. Because when I was eighteen I already tried to go to the movies every afternoon. Because I always cry bitterly at the end of My Fair Lady . Because I have dreamt about Tommy Lee Jones for years. That's why. "
