I want to teach the world about the marvels of science, using technology to involve and enthrall learners. I studied physics because I love the way ink looks when it swirls through water and I wanted to see what goes on outside my mental window. I am fascinated by the boundary between the mind and the physical world. I study consciousness and language because that is what you study with. Isn't it amazing that we can be amazed?

Passionate moments: filling a cryostat with helium in Moscow on Christmas eve, watching comets in the black Massachusetts sky, letting fireworks fall on my head on the day of Groningen independence, making computer turtles dance on coloured patches to simulate galaxies or ant migration, and lying on the floor of my South End apartment while a small hedgehog chews a sock and furiously self-anoints.

Life is an experiment. My head is a monitor performing x-rated spectroscopy of the world, sendingout signalsand scanning frequencies, looking for resonance or discord. Amazed by the games and software that have been uploaded to the hard-drive in my head, I like to explore its neuronal roots. As the coral reef of my memory grows, I follow the ebb and flow of time on the beach of my consciousness, toes dipped in the frothy foam of reality. My head lies on a sandy bed of thoughts, while the wind plays through my beard...
